City By City- Athens

You might be happy to know I found my notes about Athens and can now give you an overview that Paupers worldwide can enjoy:

Where To Eat Cheap

Tavernas in Athens are like delis in New York--- they're everywhere, but just a small few offer delicious food at decent prices.

O Platonos serves some tasty giouvtsi-- lamb and pasta baked in a terracotta dish-- in an authentic and quaint Greek setting, right at the foot of the Acropolis. A meal for two fetches for around 25 euros, or $31.

Fish lovers shold venture to Varoulko because they offer the tastiest dishes that are often cheapest. The unique seafood mousaka and glasses of house wine cost less than 40 euros for two.

Pauper Lodging

Many of the new boutique hotels are in gentrified downtown neighborhoods. Hotel Eridamus is a five story renovated neo-classical house with great deals and breathtaking views of the Acropolis, some rooms are available for as low as 85 euros a night, standard double, breakfast included!

Cool Culture

The Odeon at Herosus Atticus, near the Acropolis, this Athens Festival is the Greek capitol's top cultural event. It kicks off in June nad you can get a sneak peak here.
The cheapest tickets go for 18 euros. But there are also great package deals at the box office. Just call them at 30-210-9282900.

Pauper Freebies

Summer offers a slew of free events in Athens. Opera divas at the Ancient Agora and the Parthenon with dancers prancing amid ancient ruins until 3 a.m. Check the Culture Guide by clicking here.

Best Money Saving Tip

Don't fall prey to money gouging taxi drivers. Instead for a mere 10 euros use the transit pass that offers unlimited use of all forms of public transportation for up to a week. You can get them at the Syntagma metro station where you must check out the museum, too!
