A Paupers' Best Friend: Cruise Consolidators
Often called brokers and discounters, consolidators operate the same way as the airlines. They offer great deals anywhere from 20-80% off, but you've got to have a particular destination in mind before calling them to book your cruise.
Most of the companies I'll list for you today have links to the websites for nearly all of the major cruise lines. You can also find actual deck plans, maps, and weather information. Check the entire overview out in my book before you make a decision.
Once you know where you want to go, when you want to go, and how much your Pauper wants to spend, then---and only then, call the consolidator. Rememer, just like the airlines, these guys are not in the "hold your hand" mode of booking agents and travel agents. They are great on price but not so careful about customer service.
I would also suggest you get newsletters and sign up for special bullitins from these folks.
